The Mustangs were led by the play of their doubles teams in the match against Falls Church, with Mason’s top pairing of seniors Alex Goetting and Xavier Alarcon winning an 8-1 decision, while Daniel Lim and Daniel Butler prevailed 8-4. No. 3 doubles pair Thomas Yancey and Tim Goetz blanked their opposition 8-0.

“It is important for fans to realize the importance of the doubles component in playing high school team tennis, as many tight matches will be decided by the doubles performance,” Mason Head Coach Steve Goetting said. “While I see the Goetting/Alarcon combination as our strongest doubles pair, I am excited by the prospect of several strong pairs following on their heels.”

Mason sophomores Brian Sham, Sean Butler, Chris An and John Vroom each collected victories en route to the Mustangs’ 6-0 victory over Potomac last Thursday.

“These sophomores will be a strong basis for our team next year, after we graduate six seniors,” Goetting said.

Next up for Mason is Episcopal Prep School, this Friday at 3:45 p.m., and another road match against Yorktown next Monday at 4 p.m.
