Meridian Girls Finally Play Weeknight Home Game, Double Up Brentsville

Meridian High School’s girls’ basketball team had played in six games entering this week, yet only one of them was at home and it was a rare Saturday tilt. Finally, the girls got to play a normal weeknight game in front of their home fans on Thursday, and it happened to be against district rival Brentsville. After struggling to a 3-3 record entering the contest, they wasted no time asserting their dominance.

The Mustangs replaced multiple starters from last year’s team that made the State Semifinals, but the new group seemed to be clicking as Marin Baroody, Tilly Gale, and freshman Charlotte Lieu – all new to the lineup – all scored in a first quarter that went in favor of the home team by a score of 9-2. Scoring picked up a bit as Meridian’s lead expanded to 22-10 at halftime, and then the game was blown open in the third quarter with threes aplenty giving the girls a 43-22 advantage. They’d end up winning by a final score of 61-30, more than doubling Brentsville’s total.

Ellie Friesen led the way with 19, hitting five three-pointers, while Charlotte Lieu (13) and Mo Tremblay (11) each got into double figures as well. The Mustangs will be right back on the court Friday night as they visit Fauquier High.
