Outdoor Art Returns to ArtSpace with 4th Annual Plein Air Fest

Art lovers will be able to see the product of Falls Church Arts’ fourth annual Falls Church Plein Air Festival, “Scenes in the City,” at the festival’s juried competition this Saturday.

Since April 18, local artists have been seen painting all over town, working in “open air” as part of the plein air festival.

A free brunch, open to the public, will be served at 11 a.m. at ArtSpace Falls Church, 410 S. Maple Ave., and award winners and prizes will be announced at noon. Those entering the contest will be eligible to win the Don Beyer Volvo-KIA Plein Air Prize of $500, awarded by Mike and June Beyer; The Falls Church Arts President’s Prize of $250; and the $250 Tori McKinney Rock Star Realtor Plein Air Prize.

Works in the contest will be judged by Carolyn Grosse Gawarecki, a popular local artist and teacher. The nationally recognized watercolorist’s paintings are featured in museum, corporate, and private collections. An artist for over 30 years, she is drawn to painting floral, still life, and landscape works. She is founder and first president of the Potomac Valley Watercolorists, as well as a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Knickerbocker Artists, Virginia Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Washington Watercolor Society.
