Baseball Season Ends After Remarkable Turnaround
Meridian baseball’s season came to an end on Tuesday, June 2, with an 8-5 loss to top-ranked Goochland in the regional semifinals.
Despite the disappointing finish, the Mustangs’ season was defined by an impressive turnaround. After opening the year with a 3-5 record, Meridian caught fire in the second half of the season, earning a playoff victory over Culpeper County and advancing deep into regional competition.
With a roster that remains one of the youngest in the area, the Mustangs appear well-positioned for continued success over the next several seasons.
Boys Lacrosse Captures Back-to-Back Regional Championships
Meridian boys lacrosse continued its historic season by claiming a second consecutive regional championship with a dramatic 10-9 victory over Western Albemarle on Monday, June 1.
The win keeps the Mustangs undefeated at 18-0 and secures the program’s second regional title. Having already locked up a state tournament berth, Meridian now turns its attention toward a potential state championship run.
The Mustangs will open state tournament play on Friday, June 5, when they host the Atlee Raiders. Atlee enters the matchup with a 10-7 record and is coming off a narrow 8-7 loss in its regional championship game.
Girls Lacrosse Advances to State Tournament Despite Regional Final Loss
Meridian girls lacrosse saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 12-8 loss to Western Albemarle in the regional championship game.
The defeat leaves the Mustangs with an impressive 14-4 overall record and concludes a strong regional tournament run. By reaching the regional final, Meridian secured a place in the state tournament and will begin postseason play on June 5.
The Mustangs will travel to face Hanover, a formidable opponent that enters the tournament with a 15-2 record and a regional championship of its own.
Girls Tennis Eyes State Championship Opportunity
After falling to Maggie Walker in the regional finals, Meridian girls tennis will shift its focus toward the state tournament.
The Mustangs will begin their pursuit of a state championship on Thursday, June 4, when they take on the Tabb Tigers.
Boys Soccer Reaches Regional Championship
Meridian boys soccer advanced to the regional championship with a 2-1 victory over William Monroe, improving its record to 17-1-1 and securing a spot in the state tournament.
Before beginning state play, the Mustangs will compete for a regional title against Brentsville, the region’s second seed. The two teams previously met this season, with Meridian earning a 2-0 victory.
Brentsville will be seeking revenge in the rematch, while the Mustangs will look to continue one of the most successful seasons in program history and add a regional championship to their accomplishments.
