Washington – On Thursday, January 29, at 9:00 a.m., people of faith are coming together in Washington to pray with their feet to send a message to the Senate – no more funding for ICE. The faith groups will start with a prayer service at the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, then head to the Senate Swamp for a 10 a.m. press conference. Visits to the Senate office will follow, and the day will conclude with more than 80 faith leaders participating in civil disobedience in the Russell Rotunda. The faith leaders are demanding that the Senate uphold the Constitution, reject additional funding for ICE, and act on behalf of the common good.
Senators Warnock, and Booker are expected to join.
The group is asking supporters to email their Senators, urging them to vote NO on DHS funding before their voting deadline at 11:59 p.m. on Friday. The letter will be delivered to Congressional leadership during tomorrow’s day of action.
This event was born from Sunday night’s interfaith prayer call in support of Minneapolis and all those being terrorized by ICE. The call garnered more than 10,000 participants. Here you can view the full livestream where participants heard from Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, C.Ss.R., Minister JaNae Bates Imari, Bishop Dwayne Royster, Rev. Dr. Cassandra Gould, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, Rabbi Jill Jacobs, Rev. Carlos Malavé, and many more.
