Editor’s Update: The Debate Vs. The Record
Nicholas F. Benton
The action by the New York Times editorial board to call for President Biden to drop out of the race following the debate Thursday night was irresponsible and wholly divisive. News coverage of that comparably little-watched debate should have focused on the flood of lies that came out of the mouth of Trump throughout and not on the delivery of Biden, who said all the right things but not as forcefully as he could have.
That debate changed nothing on the two critical issues in this campaign: 1. the compulsive lies of Trump and 2. the vast superiority of Biden’s policies, for which there is ample proof in his performance during his first term. You want performance? Look at what Trump did, and what Biden has done in their presidencies, and don’t instead say a performance deciding who should be elected this November should be based on a portion of a single, artificially staged for TV event.
