DNC Statement on Passing of First Lady Rosalynn Carter

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statement on the passing of First Lady Rosalynn Carter:

Former first lady Rosalynn Carter in New York, on May 5, 1999. Rosalynn Carter, a true life partner to Jimmy Carter who helped propel him from rural Georgia to the White House in a single decade and became the most politically active first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt, died on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, in Plains, Ga. “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Put simply, Rosalynn Carter was a bright light in the darkness, an unrelenting force for good, and a patriot who loved her country. Her tireless advocacy spanned mental health awareness, women’s rights, and children’s issues worldwide, leaving an enduring impact that has made our world a better place. May the legacy of Rosalynn Carter serve as a guiding light, inspiring us to pursue a more compassionate, fair, and just world. On behalf of the entire Democratic Party, we offer our deepest condolences and prayers for President Jimmy Carter, her children, her family, and everyone grieving during this difficult time.”
