Join the Fairfax County Branch of the NAACP at the Fairfax County School Board Meeting on Thursday, June 8 at Luther Jackson Middle School at 7 p.m. to demonstrate support for changing the name of J.E.B. Stuart High School. NAACP supporters have eight of the 10 Citizen Participation Speaking slots, which means that the organization, including Branch President, Kofi Annan, are scheduled to speak.
For the past two years, the Branch has led a coalition of students, parents and community organizations in support of changing the name of J.E.B. Stuart to end the celebration of Confederate and segregationist values at the educational institution since its naming in 1959.
The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) School Board will be voting on the renaming at the June 22, 2017 School Board Meeting.
If you are unable to make June 8 demonstration, there will also be a School Board work session on June 12 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Luther Jackson Middle School.
