Marshall HS Students Set Records at Powerlifting Meet

Three students from George C. Marshall High School set new American records at the 2016 Holiday Classic Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Haymarket. Several of the girls earned medals at the meet as well. The team consists of students from Marshall’s Personal Fitness class.

Maya El–Hage set the new American record in the deadlift 315 lbs. for the 198 lb. weight class 198 in the 16/17-year-old age group), Christina Hall set the new American record for deadlift 265 lbs. for the 148 lb. weight class in the 16/17-year-old age group and Cassidy Bennett set the new American record for squat 210 lbs. and bench press 120 lbs. in the 148 lb. weight class in the 16/17-year-old age group.

The team’s head coach Ryan Wood teaches safe training and competitive technique to execute proper lifts to his students. The team is co-ed and was represented by Andrew Tran in the men’s division.
