City of Falls Church resident Stefani Lailari was named Virginia School Nurse of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Nurses in on Saturday, Nov. 5, according to the Virginia Association of School Nurses. Lailari is a nurse at James K. Polk Elementary School in Alexandria, where she has been for the past decade.

She received the award at a Celebration Luncheon at the Virginia Association of School Nurses Annual Fall Conference. Michelle Prescott, president of the Virginia Association of School Nurses, and Hope Luong, president-elect of the organization, presented Lailari with the award. There was a display created for her that sat in the conference room where the award ceremony was held.

Principal Preeann Johnson spoke about Lailari’s work in a discussion with ABC7 for a story they ran about the nurse winning the award. “She takes nursing to another level. When she came to us one of the first things we did that I remember so fondly is we turned our conference room into a dental office,” Johnson told ABC7.
