Mt. Daniel Students Treated to 2 Percussion Assemblies

Through funding from the Falls Church Elementary Parent Teacher Association, students at Mt. Daniel School participated in two assemblies on Wednesday, Nov. 9 that featured the Luis Garay World Percussion Ensemble.

All the students were involved during the performance with the ensemble members playing and students joining in on various drums, maracas and bells. The students learned about percussion instruments from around the world including the balafon, congas and cuíca.

At times students tried out different beats, then the group leader conducted them to play particular rhythms and had them singing. At the end, the teachers got to play too and all the students were up dancing. The multi-purpose rooom became one long, loud conga line.
