Henderson MS Puts on Local Version of ‘Shark Tank’

Seventh graders at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School are learning about becoming entrepreneurs. Last week, they presented their creative ideas to local business sharks, including Patrick Fleming of The Local Market, Mario Gamboa of Body Dynamics, Lauren Richards of Sylvan Learning Center, Ben Morris, Shaun Dakin, Gary LaPorta and Kim Wilkins.

One group received “funding” from Gamboa for clothing that’s lit up by LED lights. Other groups presented ideas for a LifeShirt that would indicate if the wearer had a heart attack, lacrosse balls with ID location chips embedded to find them, artisan lemonade, art supply kits and more.

Students learned about perfecting their pitches, marketing products and earning a profit for themselves and the sharks.
