F.C. League of Women Voters Hosts Film Screening

The League of Women Voters chapters of Falls Church and Fairfax and the Fairfax County Council of PTAs are sponsoring a screening of the new documentary “Under the Gun,” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27 at McLean Community Center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean.

The documentary, produced and narrated by journalist and Northern Virginia native Katie Couric, examines the events and people involved in the debate over gun violence in the United States, why politicians find it difficult to take action and what is being done at the state and local levels.

The movie will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Matt Bennet, a founder of the “Third Way” centrist think tank in Washington, who has been working on responses to gun violence since the shootings at Columbine High School 17 years ago, and Peter Read, a retired Air Force officer whose daughter Mary Karen was one of 32 students and faculty killed in April 2007 at Virginia Tech University.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested. For more information or to make a reservation, visit lwv-fairfax.org/UndertheGunScreening.html.
