Students at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School recently completed a unit on eggs, during which they learned about the nutritional benefits of eggs, their role in cooking and baking, how to purchase them and how to store them.
Then students learned five ways to cook an egg, hard boiled, soft boiled, scrambled, fried and poached. To show how eggs work as a leavening agent, they compared fudgy and cakey brownies. Then using Alton Brown’s recipe and watching the “GoodEats” episode on the science behind the recipe, the last lesson was making a cheese souffle.
