Spouse Goes Public With Del. Scott’s Alzheimer’s Struggle

Nancy Scott, spouse for 44 years of retired State Del. Jim Scott, who represented the City of Falls Church and environs in the Virginia House of Delegates for 22 years before retiring in 2013, has made the first public announcement in a guest commentary in the News-Press that she and her husband are struggling with his progressing Alzheimer’s disease.

Ms. Scott has written on the eve of what has been a long tradition of a Labor Day barbecue at the Scott home, now a fundraiser for Scott’s successor Del. Marcus Simon, and because Del. Simon has pledged half of all the money raised for that event will go to the work of the Insight Memory Care Center in Fair Oaks.

“Insight’s mission and staff echo so many aspects of Jim’s long career: a commitment to those in need, a resource and voice for those who have lost theirs, and a focus on community as a source of strength.” She directs those interested in contributing to contact andrea@marcussimon.com.
