Culmore Leadership Event Pushed Back a Week

The Culmore Leadership being planned by Jasmin Chavez, a graduate of J.E.B. Stuart High School and current student at McDaniel College, has been rescheduled from June 27 – July 1 to July 7, 8, 11 & 12 at the Willston Multicultural Center due to unforeseen circumstances.

The program is also going by the name Seven Corners Leadership program now and its purpose is to motivate rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders into developing their leadership skills. They will also learn how to lead healthy lives through physical activity. “My hope is to engage youth in activities they can do when they’re bored or with their friends,” Chavez said.

The leadership program will begin at 1 p.m. each day and will wrap up after a 4 p.m. session with a panel of student leaders who are in middle and high school, who will introduce Senora Carmen, a well-respected member of the Culmore community. Carmen will speak to the children about the opportunities their neighborhood has to offer young people who are willing to make a difference.

Towards the end of the program, program staff will hand out books and pamphlets to the students so that they can go home with valuable information about safety and how to survive in middle school. For more information, call Chavez at 703-731-7897.
