Several soccer players on George Mason High School’s varsity girls and boys soccer teams were named to the Virginia High School League 2A All-State teams last week, with Mustangs on the girls and boys teams taking home Player of the Year honors and first year girls soccer head coach Allison Klink taking home Coach of the Year honors.

Klink led the Mustangs to their ninth consecutive Virginia High school League State championship this season in her first year as the team’s head coach. It was the Mustangs’ first state title win since Jennifer Parsons left the program after leading the team to eight straight state crowns.

Junior forward Rebecca Crouch led the Mustangs girls soccer squad by being named 2A Player of the Year and making the 2A First Team. Mason seniors were also well-represented on the 2A First Team. Senior midfielders Corrine Carson and Kate Mills were named to the 2A First Team, as was senior defender Ella Howard.

Another junior, defender Carly Roberson, was also named to the 2A First Team and sophomore forward Izzy Armstrong rounded out the Mustangs’ 2A First Team selections.

Senior midfielder Grant Goodwin took home 2A Player of the Year honors for the boys team and was named to the 2A First Team. Seniors were also well-represented on the 2A First Team with senior forwards Elliott Mercado and Donal Reyes de Leon and senior midfielder Samsudeen Sallah being named to the squad.

Three juniors – goalkeeper Walker Hegadorn and defenders Wesley Quill and Nico Ferrara were named to the 2A First Team. Sophomore midfielder Kevin Valle was also named to the 2A First Team. The Mustang boys won their fourth consecutive state championship this year and outscored their opponents 145-6 over the course of the season.
