Helen Burkett Toastmasters Club Hosts Open House

The Helen Burkett Toastmasters Club is hosting an open house on Monday, July 18 from 10:15 – 11:30 a.m. at Thomas Jefferson Library, located at 7415 Arlington Blvd., Falls Church. There will be three speakers as well as table topics, which are impromptu speaking opportunities featuring current members of the club.

Toastmasters hone public speaking and leadership skills through giving speeches and organizing meetings in a supportive environment. Communication skills have helped members of the club excel in varied situations not only professionally but also personally.

Many of the club’s members have received promotions due to their ability to communicate across barriers. One of the featured speakers is Amy Brener, who has been a Toastmaster since 2008. The club will also be featuring a speech by Helen Burkett, the club’s namesake, who was among the first female members of Toastmasters in 1972.

The Helen Burkett Toastmasters Club meets two Saturdays a month at various Fairfax County library meeting rooms at 10 a.m. The club typically has 10 – 15 members present for its meetings. For more information, visit 3551.toastmastersclubs.org.
