A three-alarm fire at the Dover Park Apartments, located at 2585 Pine Spring Road, Falls Church, displaced 41 people and resulted in $689,217 in damages on Sunday, June 12, according to a press release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. Firefighters responded to reports of multiple townhouses on fire at approximately 3:55 p.m. on June 12 and, upon arrival, saw smoke and fire showing in multiple units within the the three-story townhouse unit.
The fire department said that dry and windy conditions made the fire difficult to bring under control and contributed to its spread. Three alarms were sounded, which resulted in additional resources coming to the scene from the Arlington County Fire Department and the City of Fairfax Fire Department.
A Fairfax County police officer was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but there were no firefighter or civilian injuries, according to the fire department. The building had smoke alarms that did not activate as the fire was on the exterior of the building.
The 41 people who were displaced are receiving assistance from Red Cross. The fire, which originated on the exterior of the structure in a mulch bed with bushes, was determined to be accidental. The fire department said that the cause of the fire is most likely discarded smoking material.
