At Monday night’s Falls Church City Council work session, the Council studied the method for a changing in the City’s Comprehensive Plan designation of the 1.9-acre Fellows tract at 604 S. Oak adjacent the Thomas Jefferson Elementary, which it is slated to vote on this coming Monday night. The change would make easier the City’s plan to acquire the property for an expansion of T.J Elementary if necessary later this year, which may or may not be “taken” in the form of an “eminent domain” action.
In the course of the discussion, Council member Phil Duncan noted that there are other residential properties in immediate proximity to the elementary school that may be considered future prospects for similar actions, including four lots adjacent the school on Seaton Lane and other three residential tracts across Fellows Court from the Fellows tract.
The action on the redesignation of the Fellows tract is expected to be heard by the Planning Commission and other City policy making bodies before coming back to the Council for a final vote in August.
