Moira Eisele Dies at 77

614moiraeiseleMoira Conway Eisele, 77, longtine resident of Falls Church, died Thursday, May 19, of heart failure after a long illness, at the Virginia Hospital Center, with her husband Albert and two daughters, Catherine (Kitty) Eisele, and Anne Eisele Seitz, at her side.

Moira was born on Jan. 29, 1939 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. to Judge Byron B. and Evelyn M. Conway.

She earned her B.A. at the College of St. Catherine’s in St. Paul where she met her future husband at a school dance. She studied at the University of Vienna in Austria, with the Institute of International Education, and earned an M.A. in counseling from the University of Virginia.

After teaching elementary school in St. Paul, she gave birth to her first daughter. Her husband’s newspaper career brought her to Washington in 1965, where a second daughter was born the following year. The Eisele family has resided on Seaton Circle in Falls Church since 1967.

Moira had a long career as an executive with the federal government, as a management trainer for FEMA and the FAA. She was active in her children’s lives as a PTA member, a Girl Scout troop leader and a loving mother. After retiring in 2003, she volunteered with Hospice of Northern Virginia and as a teacher of English as a second language for immigrants in the Washington area.

Moira was active in women’s book and investment clubs and the lives of her grandchildren, Christopher and Aerin Seitz of Vienna.
In addition to her husband, founding editor of The Hill and press secretary to former Vice President Walter Mondale, she is survived by her daughters; brothers Judge Dennis D. (Mary) Conway of Wisconsin Rapids and Gregory B. (Diane) Conway of Green Bay, WI; sister-in-law Rose Eisele, Solon, IA; son-in-law Patrick Seitz and several nieces and nephews.

Moira’s life will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown. Murphy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to the Mary Riley Styles Public Library of Falls Church or Catholic Charities USA.
