Choralis Foundation’s ‘Ovation’ Awards Slated for June 1

The Choralis Foundation’s Seventh Annual Greater Washington, D.C. Area Choral Excellence Ovation Awards will be presented on June 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Clarendon Ballroom, located at 3185 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. There will be cocktail reception, seated dinner and musical interludes at the event.

Maestro Stanley J. Thurston, founder and artistic director of the Heritage Signature Chorale, artistic director of the Washington Performing Arts Men, Women and Children of the Gospel Choirs, and artist-in-residence at Washington National Cathedral will receive the Ovation Award for Outstanding Contributions to Choral Music, the Ovations’ highest honor.

“Choralis is honored and pleased to recognize Stanley Thurston’s stellar career in choral music, during which he has nurtured and trained countless singers and brought the gift of well-performed choral music to delighted audiences not only in the DC area, but nationally and internationally,” said Susan Frost, chair of The Choralis Foundation board of directors. “We also are proud to highlight the achievements and contributions of the nine nominees in our three additional award categories.”

The Choralis Foundation will also present awards in three other categories: Most Creative Programming, Best Chamber Chorus and Outstanding Community Service. Tickets for the event are $125 and tickets can be bought to support a conductor at $105. For more information, visit choralis.org.
