City of Falls Church Public Schools will be closed for a fourth consecutive day as it was announced today they will be closed again Thursday, January 28. Day care services, initially reported open, will also be closed.

The schools said it took a bus out Wednesday for a trial run and they determined there is “still a need to continue working through Thursday to make sure that our routes are safe for all our children.”

A statement on the school’s “alert” web page said “The Facilities staff have been working around the clock to check buildings, clear parking lots, and work to get school reopened. We have also been monitoring the clearing issues in localities around Virginia, DC, and Maryland as many of our staff members were still stuck in their driveways as of yesterday. We want to express a sincere thank you to Falls Church City Public Works who have been terrific during this record setting storm. They helped to clear Mount Daniel yesterday and continue to work with us on clearing for our bus routes in the City of Falls Church. Thanks to all of you who have made it a priority to help get sidewalks clear in your neighborhoods.”

Parking lots at the schools are now clear, the schools report, but parking will be limited due to snow accumulation.

As of Thursday, because of “banked” hours, the schools do not need to make up any of the lost days of classes.
