Arlington Philharmonic Presents Ritmos Festivos

Arlington Philharmonic continues its 10th Anniversary season with Ritmos Festivos, a family-friendly concert, on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. at Wakefield High School, located at 1325 S. Dinwiddie St., Arlington.

The concert will feature Spanish influences on classical music throughout the history of the genre. The orchestra’s repertoire that night will include “Borne’s Carmen Fantasy,” a flute solo based on Bizet’s themes, directly from Spanish folk influence. The flute solo will be performed by Aaron Goldman.

Also, the orchestra will play Gershwin’s “Cuban Overture” and Moncayo’s Mexican dance “Huapango.” The Argentine Ginastera’s thrilling suite “Four Dances” from “Estancia” and the Brazilian Villa-Lobos’s “Aria” from “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5” will take concertgoers to South America.

Admission to the concert is free, but a $20 donation is encouraged. For more information, visit arlingtonphilharmonic.org.
