A 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 17 for allegedly assaulting and kissing an 8-year-old girl in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, according to Fairfax County police. After meeting with the girl and her mother, police charged Santos Romero Gomez, 35, of the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, with assault and kissing a child under the age of 13, with lascivious intent, police said in a press release sent out on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Police said they were called to an apartment building on the 3400 block of Glen Carlyn Drive in Falls Church on the morning of November 17 for a reported sex offense. The officers met with the girl and her mother, who said the girl was dropped off at an apartment-run daycare that morning before going to school.
While inside the apartment, the child was approached by a man renting a room in the same apartment. He reportedly touched the child inappropriately and kissed her. She broke free and ran to the woman babysitting her. The child called her parent, who immediately responded back to the apartment.
Officers determined that Gomez has rented a room in that apartment for several years and the leaseholder of that same apartment has run an in-home daycare there as well. If the parents of any children who attend that daycare feel they may have information to share with police, they are asked to call the non-emergency number at 703-691-2131 and make a police report or contact Crime Solvers electronically by visiting fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or by texting “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES(274637) or by calling 1-866-411-TIPS(8477).
