2 Falls Church Residents Serve in Americorps

Falls Church residents Greta Schaaf and Melissa Wilson recently began 10-month terms of service in the National Civilian Community Corps, an AmeriCorps program. Schaaf will be based out of Sacramento and Wilson will be based out of Denver.

Schaaf, a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, and Wilson, a graduate of McLean High School, arrived at their respective service sites in early October to begin training. This training, which prepared them for 10 months of full-time service with AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps, emphasized teamwork, leadership development, communication, service learning and certification in various hard skills.

Schaaf and Wilson will be responsible for completing a series of six- to eight-week-long service projects as part of a 10 – 12 person team. Their first service projects will end mid-December, at which time their teams will break for the winter holidays and begin a new project in a new location in January.
