Acclaimed Singer Julie Fowlis Performs at The Alden

Acclaimed Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis is performing at The Alden theater on Saturday, Oct. 17 to kick off the theater’s 2015-2016 season. Fowlis, an award-winning Celtic singer and multi-instrumentalist, will perform at 8 p.m. She performs primarily in the rarely heard language of Scottish Gaelic.

Fowlis’ vocals and music are deeply influenced by her early upbringing in the Outer Hebridean island of North Uist, Scotland. She is most recognized for singing the theme song to “Brave,” Disney Pixar’s Oscar-, Golden Globe- and BAFTA-winning animated film, set in the ancient highlands of Scotland.

Also, she was nominated Folk Singer of the Year at the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and Best Artist at the Songlines World Music Awards 2015. She made history as the first Gaelic solo artist to win a Scottish Music Award in December 2014.

Tickets for the concert are $20 for residents of the McLean Community Center tax district and $35 for everyone else. For more information, visit aldentheatre.org.
