The Falls Church City Council has given “first reading” preliminary approval to $1,271,679 in new general fund expenditures that became available following the conclusion of Fiscal Year 2015 to include two new City positions — a transportation planner and one for an environmental program coordinator — a new school bus and an array of smaller items at its meeting Tuesday. The vote was 5-2, with Council members Karen Oliver and Nader Baroukh voting no.

Capital improvement funds, including $600,000 for a roadbed reconstruction of Roosevelt Avenue and $479,500 received in grants from Virginia Department of Transportation for pavement improvements were also OK’d, pending a “second reading” final approval later this month.
