Eagle Scout Project Brings New Fence to Cherry Hill Park

Justin Kahr of Boy Scout Troop 681 and members of his troop, joined by a few volunteers, built a split-rail fence at the Park Avenue and Virginia Avenue entrance to Cherry Hill Park, across from Mary Riley Styles Public Library. Kahr approached the City of Falls Church for ideas for an Eagle Scout project, and was intrigued by one in particular.

“They told me that Cherry Hill Park needed a new fence,” Kahr said. “I thought it sounded perfect for me, and I liked that I’d get to build something everyone could see for a long time.”

The City provided fence materials, and Kahr and the troop provided the cement for the fence posts. “Several exposed tree roots were making the entrance difficult to navigate,” said Danny Schlitt, Director of Recreation and Parks. “The fence directs visitors to a smoother path and protects the roots.”
