231 F.C. Residents Sign Up to Learn About Solar Energy

The City of Falls Church reported on Thursday, Aug. 20 that 231 City residents signed up to learn about solar energy through the Solarize NOVA program. That number has more than doubled from the 99 residents who had signed up for a solar assessment when the News-Press reported on the progress of the program in early June.

Through the program, sponsored by the Northern Virginia Regional Commission and the Local Energy Alliance Program, select communities in Northern Virginia were offered bulk purchasing discounts and free solar site assessments.

As part of a friendly bet to see which locality garnered the most sign-ups for the Solarize program, the City of Falls Church hosted a dinner for Town of Vienna Mayor Laurie DiRocco and the Town’s council on Monday, Aug. 3, which the News-Press also reported on. According to a press release from the city, while Falls Church lost in actual numbers (289 signs ups for Vienna), when adjusted for population, the Falls Church and Vienna were neck-and-neck.
