South West Street to Reopen Friday Evening

The South West Street detour in the City of Falls Church will be lifted Friday evening and the road will be once again be open to traffic. The road closure, part of a roadbed reconstruction project to repair the City’s stormwater infrastructure scheduled to start in September, began on Wednesday and was supposed to last two weeks but officials say, while work will continue, no additional road closures are anticipated. The southbound parking lane on S. West between Poplar and Laura drives will be closed, however.

Following the Labor Day holiday, roadway reconstruction will commence and should be completed by the end of October, weather permitting, the City says. Once finalized, a detailed schedule with detours and temporary traffic pattern changes will be delivered to affected residents and posted to the City’s website fallschurchva.gov/SWestStreet.
