Falls Church resident and George Mason High School graduate Ryan Shane played in a qualifying match for the Citi Open Tennis Tournament this Saturday at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center. He earned his spot in the qualifying round of the Citi Open by winning the 2015 NCAA men’s singles championship.
The 21-year-old rising senior at the University of Virginia lost to Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the match. It’s not over for Shane, though. As part of his win, Shane also received a wild card in the U.S. Open, which starts Aug. 31 and runs through Sept. 13.
