Mustangs Girls Beat Gate City 9-0, Headed to State Championship

George Mason High School’s varsity girls soccer team beat Gate City High School 9-0 this afternoon at Radford University in the Virginia High School League 2A state semifinal. The Mustangs sprinted out to an early lead and were up 5-0 at halftime.

They continued their scoring onslaught a minute into the second half, extending their lead to 6-0. Now, the Mustangs move on to tomorrow morning’s state championship, a rematch against Maggie Walker’s Governor’s School, who they beat 2-1 in last year’s state championship game and beat Maggie Walker 4-0 on Tuesday in the 2A East regional championship. If the Mustangs win tomorrow, it’ll be their eighth straight state championship.
