Painter and drawer Linda Lowery will be the featured artist in Gallery Underground’s Focus Gallery starting next Monday, March 2, when her Screaming Babies exhibition goes up. The show, featuring large portraits with a close-up views of the raw emotion of babies, is the product of Lowery’s work of rendering crying babies in a loose, expressionistic style using bold colors over the past five years.

“The pain and discomfort depicted in these portraits is a metaphor for the pain and discomfort we experience all of our lives,” Lowery said in a press release from the Arlington Artists Alliance. “…when we see a picture of an infant crying, we identify with the baby’s pain or feelings of abandonment and insecurity and fright.”

The show, which has an opening reception next Friday, March 6, will be up through March 28. For more information, visit galleryunderground.org.
