
UPDATE: This report has been updated to incorporate new information from the Virginia State Police department about this afternoon’s accident.
Another Virginia State Police trooper was injured after getting hit by a car in Northern Virginia today. At around 2 p.m. today a trooper was out of his car on a stop on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of I-66, just east of Beltway/I-495, when a car passing the stop ran off the road and collided with the vehicles stopped on the shoulder. The state trooper was struck during the course of the collision.
The state trooper and three others were transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital. According to the Virginia State Police department, the state trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries. The other three individuals also suffered non-life threatening injuries. The cause of this crash remains under investigation at this time.
This is the second Virginia trooper to be struck and injured within a 12-hour period today. At around 3:30 a.m. this morning, an out-of-control SUV struck a state trooper’s vehicle in Prince William County. Trooper I.J. Dallam, Sr., the state trooper involved in the accident, was transported to Sentara Prince William Hospital after the crash for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries. He has since been treated and released.
