Truman Custer (right) broke a 50-year-old school record at George Mason High School, which was previously held by Merle W. Fallon, in June 2014 when he won the 800-meter run at the Virginia High School League’s 2A state championship. Custer is shown here shaking Fallon’s hand after Fallon presented him with a plaque commemorating Custer’s achievement at the American Legion Post 130. Harry Shovlin of Post 130 organized the event to honor Custer, who is a member of Boy Scout troop 349, which is sponsored by Post 130.
