Arlington Gallery Exhibiting ‘Art Brut’ in New Show

Gallery Underground opened a new show on Monday in partnership with Art Purple, an art therapy program that works with the unique cultures both of individuals with disabilities, and of military members and their families.

The show, entitled “Making Their Mark: Art Brut”, features work described as “raw art” – artwork created without the influence of classical art or culture. These artists lack formal training and live outside the cultural mainstream, creating what is also known as “Outsider art.”

The show is on display until Aug. 23 and its opening reception is Friday, Aug. 1 from 5 – 8 p.m. in Gallery Underground’s Focus Gallery (2100 Crystal Drive, Arlington). For more information, visit galleryunderground.org.
