The City of Falls Church Housing and Human Services (HHS) is holding a school supply drive for students in need. Donations are being accepted through August 20 at the HHS office in City Hall (G Level, Room G04, 300 Park Ave.) during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Helpful donations include new (not used): gift cards (Staples, Giant, and CVS – stores that sell school supplies), monetary contributions to the School Family Assistance Program, backpacks, binders (1”, 1.5”, 2”), binder/subject dividers, double-pocket folders, spiral notebooks, graph paper notebooks, index cards, Post-it notes, compasses, protractors, rulers, pens, markers, highlighters (no crayons or pencils), pencil pouches, hand sanitizer, deodorant, and tissues.
School supply donations will qualify for the Virginia Department of Taxation August Sales Tax Holiday. Purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax from Aug. 1 – 3.
