‘Scenes in the City’ Awarded Prizes in Plein Air Contest

Falls Church Arts opened the fifth annual Falls Church Plein Air Festival in late April, inviting artists to paint en plein air and enter their works for a competition that was held last Saturday at ArtSpace Falls Church.

Artists from across the region visited Falls Church to paint this year’s “Scenes in the City,” joining local artists here in the City painting subjects such as private homes and gardens, local churches and businesses, and favorites like the Falls Church Farmers’ Market, The State Theatre, and Cherry Hill. Twenty-seven paintings were submitted by 18 participating artists.

Patricia Walach Keough won the first-place Don Beyer Volvo-KIA Plein Air Prize of $500 for her oil painting, “Henderson House.”

Rajendra KC won the second-place Tori McKinney Rock Star Realtor Plein Air Prize of $250 for his watercolor, “The State Theatre.”

Manuela Costescu won the third-place Falls Church Arts President’s Prize of $250 for her painting “Friday Fun.”

Landscape artist and plein air painter Bobbi Pratte was the judge of this year’s contest.

The “Scenes in the City” show is open daily from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at ArtSpace, now through the end of July. ArtSpace Falls Church is located at 410 S. Maple Ave.
