Falls Church citizens whose lives were touched by the extensive local volunteer work of the late Stephen Sprague, who died last week, gathered at the Falls Church City Council meeting Tuesday, where a special resolution honoring Sprague was adopted unanimously by the Council. Sprague’s son, Robert, is shown between and slightly below Council members David Snyder and Phil Duncan.

Sprague, on top of a 33-year career with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, served on Falls Church’s Housing Corporation, its Housing Commission, Affordable Housing Policy Work Group, the Falls Church Education Foundation, the Nancy Sprague Teacher Leadership Fund and the Beth and Nancy Sprague Spirit of George Mason Award, the Citizens for a Better City and the Dulin Methodist Church, where he taught English as a Second Language to adult students.

A viewing will be held Friday, May 30, at the Murphy’s Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and a funeral on Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m. at the Dulin Church on E. Broad St.
