Five of the 10 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination in the June 10 primary to fill the seat being vacated by Rep. Jim Moran appeared at a brunch event to highlight the race held by the LGBT Democrats of Virginia Sunday in Arlington. Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Don Beyer, Alexandria activist Mark Levine, State Sen. Adam Ebbin, Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille and Arlington activist Lavern Chatman delivered remarks, all claiming to represent variously all “who’ve got it tough,” or “who’ve fallen through the cracks.” Beyer said he’s heartened, in his belief in the linearity of history, by the progress made in civil rights, including for lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgendered people.
