Students participating in a new local history after-school academy, titled “A Junior Detective Adventure: The Case of the Mysterious Colonel Wren,” went on a field trip with their families on April 19 to visit the historic home and cemetery of Colonel James Wren, a carpenter, farmer, tavern owner, Revolutionary War hero, colonial government official and builder of The Falls Church. The children presented the owner of the cemetery, Peter Greene, with a poster board about their research. The board will be displayed in the cemetery for all visitors to learn more about this local figure. The children were also given a tour of Wren’s manor house, built in 1770, by the current owners Dave and Karen Magness. Dave Magness, pictured above, gave the tour dressed as Captain John S. Mosby, a local civil war figure. (Photo: Virginia Ward)
