City of F.C. Street Sweeping Set for Next Week

The City of Falls Church will be sweeping streets next week.

Sweeping is set to take place on Monday, April 14, and Tuesday, April 15, in residential areas south of Broad Street; on Wednesday, April 16, in commercial areas and municipal parking areas; and on Thursday, April 17, and Friday, April 18, in residential areas north of Broad Street. The schedule is subject to change due to weather.

Residents are asked to move vehicles off of residential streets scheduled for sweeping between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Effectiveness suffers when cars are parked on the street, as the greatest accumulation of debris and pollutants is in the gutter.

Street sweeping reduces the volume of pollutants entering local streams through the City’s 900 storm drain openings. Each cycle of street sweeping collects between 40 and 50 tons of debris from City streets and keeps it out of our streams. The materials intercepted include road salt, heavy metals, trash, and general sediment.
