State Del. Lopez Drops Out of 8th District Race, N-P Corrects Errors

Virginia State Del. Alfonso Lopez representing the Cullmore District of greater Falls Church, announced the end of his campaign today for the Democratic nomination to replace Rep. Jim Moran as the U.S. congressman from the 8th District. “I got into this race because even though on paper the economy is doing well, too many people are still struggling to make ends meet. I am proud of how my campaign resonated with many voters in the 8th District, especially new Americans,” he said.

He added that with the close of the fundraising quarter, “It is clear to me that I do not have the resources necessary to run the campaign we wanted.”

With the end of Lopez’ campaign, the field of Democrats who have qualified for the June 10 primary ballot drops to 10. An error in the News-Press coverage of qualifying candidates this week citing an inaccurate source excluded two candidates who qualified — Bruce Shuttleworth and Satish Korpe — and included one who didn’t, Nancy Najarian. The News-Press apologizes for the errors.
