Obenshain Concedes, Herring is Virginia AG

Republican Mark Obenshain conceded to Democrat Mark Herring Wednesday after a recount of the hair-thin margin in the November attorney general race failed to change the overall result.

Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe released the following statement congratulating Attorney General-elect Mark Herring and thanking Senator Mark Obenshain after his graceful concession in the Attorney General’s race today: “After a long wait, Virginians finally have their next Attorney General, and I could not be more pleased to congratulate my friend Mark Herring on his hard-fought victory. Attorney General-elect Herring ran a great campaign focused on keeping our communities safe and our economy strong. He will be a champion for that agenda and a great partner for Lieutenant Governor-elect Ralph Northam and me as we take office together on January 11th.”

The LGBT Democrats of Virginia hailed the outcome as marking together with the victories of McAuliffe and Northam “the most LGBT-friendly state leadership in the history of Virginia.”
