Delegate-Elect Pre-Files 2 Bills in Richmond

New Delegate-Elect Marcus Simon has not wasted any time since his election last month to hit the ground running in Richmond. Simon, who replaces Del. Jim Scott representing the 53rd District that includes the City of Falls Church, filed his first bill Tuesday, identical to one introduced by Del. Scott in the past, which prohibits anyone convicted of stalking, sexual battery or domestic violence from carrying a firearm or any other weapon for a period of five years following his conviction.

Simon’s second prefiling is a bill that would make it a crime to post “revenge porn” – sexually explicit photographs or videos or former spouses or intimate friends – for the purpose of causing them emotional distress. Currently, according to Simon, only California and New Jersey have such prohibitions.
