F.C. City Library Board Seeks Public’s Input on Draft Master Plan

The Mary Riley Styles Public Library Board of Trustees is soliciting public input and commentary on the final draft Master Plan Development and Space Study, which was accepted as presented on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Following the Board’s acceptance, the plan was presented to City Council at the Oct. 21 Work Session for comment.

The draft plan outlines a study of the existing programs and services of the library with recommendations on what will be needed in the future. Documentation on the existing facility’s space shortfalls, ADA issues, as well as present and future mechanical and equipment needs are also included. Based upon the expected population growth over the next 20 years coupled with the library programs and services projected for that time frame, the plan makes suggestions for the additional space that will be required to meet those needs. Two possible methods for addressing the Library’s expanded space needs while remaining in it’s current location are also included. Conceptual drawings and approximate costs for those two expansion concepts accompany the options.

Before formally adopting the draft as a Final Plan, the Board will carefully consider all comments received. Afterward, the Board will present the Final Plan to Council and request that it be adopted for planning purposes, inclusion in the Capital Improvements Program (CIP), and consideration for annual budgets.

A copy of the final draft version of the Master Plan and Space Study is posted on the Library’s homepage. Comments and suggestions must be received not later than by Friday, Nov. 15. and can be submitted via email at mrspl@fallschurchva.gov, or by regular mail to Board of Trustees, 120 N. Virginia Avenue, Falls Church, 22046.
