Volunteer Opportunities Offered in F.C. for Day to Serve

The governors of Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia and the mayor of Washington, D.C. have declared Sept 15 – 29 as time for all citizens to give a day of service to help those in need. Volunteers can join this Day to Serve initiative in Falls Church by donating non-perishable food items to help feed the hungry in the community.

Donations will benefit the Columbia Baptist “Spend Yourself” Food Pantry, the Falls Church Community Service Council Food Pantry at Knox Presbyterian Church, and the Falls Church Homeless Shelter. Last year’s collection efforts contributed almost 4,000 pounds of food to these food banks from one day of collection.

This Saturday, Sept. 21, runners will go through Falls Church neighborhoods to collect donations, which will be sorted and delivered to the food banks and shelter.

Much needed items include canned fruits and vegetables, canned soup and pasta, canned meats, cooking oils, cereals, bag of rice,  jellies and jams, dried pastas and canned sauces, and dish-washing and laundry detergents.

This Falls Church event is organized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Falls Church Ward) in cooperation with Knox Presbyterian Church and Columbia Baptist Church.
