One More Page to Host Homeschoolers Open House

One More Page Books will host its free Homeschool Day and Open House next Monday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. The independent bookstore invites homeschool educators and students, as well as for those who are interested in homeschooling, to the event, which will include author visits, story time and craft activities, a presentation of new and soon-to-be-released books, giveaways, raffles, and light refreshments.

At 11:30 a.m., Cathy Breen from the Mary Riley Styles Public Library will share books, songs, rhymes, and movement activities and demonstrate how story time reinforces the life-long love of learning.

At noon, Stephanie Elms, a representative from the Organization of Virginia Homeschoolers, will conduct a session on how to foster relationships with books.

At 1 p.m., Nicole Dufort, a Random House Children’s representative, will discuss new books that integrate language arts selections with topics such as history, science, and social studies.

At 2 p.m., children’s author Jacqueline Jules will read from her award-winning book “Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation,” which traces the challenges, conflicts, and compromises that shaped the U.S. Constitution.

At 3 p.m., a veteran drama teacher from Creative Cauldron will take guests into the woods on a journey full of myth and mystery with scenes from their upcoming show, “Tales from the Brothers Grimm.”
