Sept. 8 Forum to Discuss Water System Referendum

The League of Women Voters of Falls Church and the Village Preservation and Improvement Society will co-sponsor a forum Sept. 8 on the upcoming referendum on the sale of Falls Church City’s water system to Fairfax County. The event will be held at 3 p.m. in the Senior Center of the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., Falls Church.

The referendum, which will appear on the Nov. 5 election ballot, will seek voter approval to sell the Falls Church Water Utility to Fairfax Water for $40 million. The terms of the sale, which were negotiated with the assistance of a federal mediator, have been approved by the Falls Church City Council, the Fairfax Water Board of Directors, and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

At the voter forum, City Manager Wyatt Shields will present the referendum and discuss the process through which the agreement with Fairfax County was reached. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation.
